You Are Still Here

Death is just a step in the right direction
All our mortal bodies must return
To whichever source, whatever plain

It is painful to feel the absence
To pretend we are still the same
To carry on when loved one’s have left us
But consider, if you can, who has gained

Maybe there’s a heaven
Maybe there’s a place where good people go
To rejoice and find refuge
Maybe there’s nothing
And everything ends with the last breath

We can never know for sure
What we can do is remember
Not with sorrow, but gratefulness
That we were blessed for a while
And we can hope that perhaps in someway
We bring comfort to others
